The 'Via Crucis'
Armand Demeulemeester

The "Via Crucis of silence" is a work of art made by Armand Demeulemeester (Ronse 11.10.1926 - 25.02.2002). Each station, oil on canvas, measures 1,50 x 1,50m. The Last Supper is in three parts : 4,50 x 1,50m. The figures are life-size. The whole is painted in expressionist style.
The commission was: a way towards meditation. The paintings are hang up at 50 cm from the floor and so, when meditating on the Passion, the monks step along in this sad procession in the monastery cloisters as it were.

The cloister of the abbey is not open to visitors, nor the "Via Crucis". In the "Claustrum" in the abbey's visitor Center "In De Vrede" replica with explanations can be seen.
